What elections are coming up in November 2026? Senate, House and governor races in 27 states
The general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Every U.S. House seat, 35 U.S. Senate seats and 36 governorships are on ballots, along with state offices that differ from state to state. Here is what each state’s election office lists.
- The general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026: federal law puts House elections on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years. [4]
- All 435 U.S. House seats are on the ballot, plus 35 U.S. Senate seats: the 33 seats of Class II and contests in Ohio and Florida for terms that end in 2029. [1][2][3][7]
- Thirty-six states elect a governor, by the National Governors Association’s list; North Carolina is the only one of the Ledger’s 11 board states not on it. [6]
- Eight board states have both a U.S. Senate race and a governor’s race: Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas. Arizona and Pennsylvania have no Senate race. [1][2][6]
- Candidate lists are dated and can change; names here are as official lists showed them on September 17, 2026. [20][27]
The general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. [4][43] All 435 seats in the U.S. House are on the ballot, along with 35 U.S. Senate seats and the governorships of 36 states. [1][2][3][5][6][7] Below those races sit state offices, judgeships and ballot questions that differ from one state to the next. A table covers 27 states; sections follow for the 11 states on the Ledger’s race board, with candidates for U.S. Senate and governor as official lists showed them on September 17, 2026.
What elections are coming up in 2026: the national picture
Federal law sets the date: “The Tuesday next after the 1st Monday in November, in every even numbered year,” is the day for electing members of the House. [4] For the mechanics, see when Election Day is and how to vote in the 2026 midterms.
- U.S. House. Each representative “is elected to a two-year term,” so every seat is filled at each general election. [5] On September 17, 2026 the Clerk’s tally was 218 Republicans, 214 Democrats, 1 independent and 2 vacancies: 435 seats. [3] See the 2026 House elections.
- U.S. Senate. The 33 Class II senators, 20 Republicans and 13 Democrats, hold terms that run to “the end of the 119th Congress on January 3, 2027.” [1] Ohio and Florida also fill the rest of a Class III term, which runs to January 3, 2029; a county election board’s list describes Ohio’s contest as “Unexpired Term Ending 1-3-2029.” [2][11][23] The Cook Political Report’s chart of September 15, 2026 lists the same 35 contests. [7] See the 2026 Senate map.
- Governors. The National Governors Association counts “39 gubernatorial elections in 2026”: 36 states plus Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. [6] See who is running for governor in 2026.
